Ronald Chappell Obituary

The oldest of three boys, and born in Who'd Thought It, AL, he walked to school, his family was living in the country, and he ran off to marry his first girlfriend before finishing high school. He signed up for the USAF, had three children, and served 11 years of service ending with his stint in the Security Police.

Life then took him to Tuscaloosa AL in the late 60's where he owned a fast-food restaurant, “Burger in a Hurry”. He saw the writing on the wall when McDonald's moved into the state and sold the business and moved to Ensley AL, where his parents and grandparents lived. He was hired by the new McDonald's owners and was promoted from crew, to store manager, then to District Supervisor and Director of Training and finally Director of Operations.

He met his current wife in 1977 when she was hired to implement Local Store Marketing programs and was in training to graduate from B.O.C.= Basic Operations Course to run a restaurant.  Together they were a part of the market's growth from 19 locations to 37 locations. They married in 1980 at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham and had their daughter in 1984. He retired from the fast-food world and was a proud house-Husband to help raise their daughter.

Ron was the King for the Krewe of Columbus in 2022 and enjoyed being a member of this social group since 2012.

Surviving family is wife Billie Brown Chappell, daughter Sunnie Chappell, and oldest daughter Rhonda Smith, sons Ronald and Jim, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Burial at Barrancas National Cemetery the latter part of May.
